Milho Scarflet
The perfect year-round accessory and those moss stitch cables are so fun to knit!
Pattern Inspiration
‘Milho’ means sweetcorn in Portuguese. We moved to Portugal a few years ago and since arriving we’ve eaten lots of traditional breads and things made from sweetcorn. My girls and I love it! And so this mini scarf pays homage to the humble sweetcorn. I think the little moss stitch motifs look just like corn on the cob!
Pattern Overview
This scarf is knitted flat from tip to tip. A series of increases are first made to shape one tip. You then work straight for a certain length before making decreases to shape the other tip. The increases and decreases are neatly arranged so that they follow the direction of the cables, which makes for a very satisfying knit.
Finished Dimensions: 105cm long and 7 (7.5) 8cm wide (approximately 41 inches long and 3 inches wide)
Yarn: 4ply (sport) DK weight yarn. You will need approximately 50 (55) 60g or 200 (150) 140m (220 (165) 150yards) of each yarn weight.
Needles: 3.25 (3.5) 4mm needles (US 3 (4) 6)
Gauge: 42 (39) 36 sts and 38 (35) 32 rows / 10cm in stitch pattern after blocking
Samples shown here are knitted as follows:
Red (4ply): De Rerum Natura Albertine (90% merino with 10% silk, 200m (219 yards) per 50g in colourway Coquelicot; I used exactly 44g)
Brown (sport weight): John Arbon Textiles Seafarer Sport (90% British wool, 10% silk, 300m per 100g in colourway Selkie; I used exactly 46g)
Dark blue (DK): De Rerum Natura Pénélope (90% merino with 10% silk, 133m (145yards) per 50g in colourway Mésange, I used exactly 49g)
